India and Pakistan in the same group in the Asia Cup

Although the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting held in Dhaka did not deliver an official confirmation regarding the Asia Cup, much of the uncertainty surrounding the tournament appears to have eased. Following the meeting, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi stated that discussions with the BCCI are ongoing.

Meanwhile, several Indian media outlets have reported that the BCCI has given a green signal to the Asia Cup, fueling speculation that arch-rivals India and Pakistan might lock horns in the tournament. However, no official confirmation has been made on this front.

Initially, reports suggested that the BCCI might skip the July 24 ACC meeting in Dhaka. However, a BCCI representative eventually joined the meeting virtually. Speaking to the media afterwards, Naqvi expressed his delight at the participation of all 25 ACC member nations and emphasized the need for unity and cooperation above politics, in the interest of cricket.

Despite the enthusiasm, Naqvi did not provide any concrete update regarding the Asia Cup. Sources revealed that Indian Cricket Board Vice President Rajiv Shukla was involved in the discussions and is actively working toward resolving issues related to the tournament.

According to India’s PTI news agency, the Asia Cup is likely to be held in the UAE this September, with India and Pakistan reportedly placed in the same group. If true, this sets the stage for a high-voltage clash on September 7, just weeks after the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match in the Legends League was called off.

As per the tentative schedule circulating in the media, the Asia Cup is expected to kick off on September 5, with the final slated for September 21. However, these dates, like the rest of the information, remain unofficial for now.
