Shakib will Start play with Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in CPL 2025

Shakib Al Hasan has been away from the Bangladesh national team for a year, and questions remain about whether he will continue his international career. Despite this, the former world No. 1 all-rounder remains active in overseas leagues. Currently, Shakib is in the West Indies for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In a video released from Antigua, he expressed his joy at returning to the Caribbean.

“It feels great to be back here in the West Indies,” Shakib said. “I’ve joined the Antigua team, and I’m very excited that they’ve chosen me. I’m looking forward to the CPL. I’ve played for several franchises in this league before, and hopefully, this will be another memorable season for me.”

This is Shakib’s first stint with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Speaking about his new side, he added, “We’ve got a strong squad both on and off the field. With experienced names like Paul Nixon and Sir Curtly Ambrose around, sharing the dressing room will be special. We have a good balance of youth and experience, and if we can use it well, it should be a great tournament.”

Shakib is also eager to meet the legendary Sir Viv Richards. “In the Caribbean, there are many cricketing greats, and Sir Viv Richards is one of the biggest names. Playing at a stadium named after him is truly special. I hope to meet him in person, have him visit our dressing room, and hear his experiences,” he said.

The 13th edition of the CPL begins on Friday, August 15. In the tournament opener, Shakib’s Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will face the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The match starts at 5:00 am Bangladesh time.
